Northridge is a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley, not a separate city. That changes how your injury claim works. LAPD writes your crash report, the Los Angeles Superior Court hears your case, and if a city road or vehicle played a part, the claim goes to the Los Angeles City Clerk. If you are looking for a Northridge personal injury attorney, you want a straight answer on what happens next. Moe Abdallah Law, P.C. handles motor-vehicle injury cases only. We represent people who were physically hurt, and families who lost someone, in crashes. We do not take dog bites, slip-and-falls, workplace injuries or medical malpractice. Moe works from downtown Los Angeles and keeps Valley clients updated by phone and text. The call is free any hour, Se Habla Español, and you pay nothing unless we win. Below you will find the roads, agencies, hospital and deadlines that matter in Northridge.

How we help injured people in Northridge

We handle every motor-vehicle injury case type for Northridge residents, dealing with the insurers directly while you focus on recovery.

Where Northridge sits and who handles your crash

LA City Planning's Northridge Community Plan area covers about 10 square miles. It runs roughly from the Ronald Reagan Freeway (SR-118) and Devonshire Street on the north, to Roscoe Boulevard on the south, with the Bull Creek flood control channel to the east and Tampa Avenue to the west. Cal State Northridge sits inside it. The ZIP codes you will see on paperwork include 91324 and 91325. Because Northridge belongs to the City of Los Angeles, the police agency is LAPD, and the station is Devonshire Community Police Station at 10250 Etiwanda Avenue. The front desk number is 818-832-0633. LAPD says the station serves Chatsworth and Northridge, plus parts of Canoga Park, Granada Hills and Winnetka. Its Devonshire Area covers 48.31 square miles and more than 219,000 people, so that figure is for the whole area and not Northridge alone. Here is what that means for you. Your crash report is an LAPD report, and its number, called a DR number, is what you need for everything that follows. Write it down before you leave the scene if you can.

Traffic at a busy intersection in Northridge

Reseda Boulevard, Devonshire Street and the roads where people get hurt

Reseda Boulevard is the main north-south road through the neighborhood, and the city picked it for a 2.9-mile safety project from Victory Boulevard to Parthenia Street. Streetsblog LA, citing the city's presentation, reported that 110 people were killed or seriously injured on that stretch from 2009 to 2019, and nearly half were pedestrians and cyclists. A deadly two-car crash near Reseda and Lassen Street on the morning of July 8, 2026 was reported by CBS Los Angeles, with the cause unknown at the time. A 2018 study by a private injury firm, reported by the CSUN Daily Sundial, called Devonshire Street at Reseda Boulevard the most dangerous intersection in California. That study used 2015 data and is not an official ranking, so read it as background. Other busy streets include Tampa Avenue, Zelzah Avenue, Balboa Boulevard, Nordhoff Street, Roscoe Boulevard and Lindley Avenue. We could not confirm which Northridge streets sit on the city's High Injury Network, so we do not claim it. If you were hurt on any of them, write down the exact intersection.

Car crashes, rideshare rides and the insurance puzzle

A Northridge car crash on Reseda, Nordhoff or Tampa can look like a left turn across traffic, a rear-end hit at a red light, or a driver who runs a stale yellow. The first fight is over fault. California follows pure comparative negligence, so you can recover even if you share the blame, but your award drops by your percentage (Li v. Yellow Cab Co. (1975) 13 Cal.3d 804). Insurance limits are the next fight. The state minimum is $30,000 per person and $60,000 per accident on policies issued or renewed since January 1, 2025, and that rarely covers surgery. Your own uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage can help. Rideshare works differently. From the moment a driver accepts a ride until it ends, liability coverage of $1,000,000 applies. Since January 1, 2026, the rideshare company's UM and UIM coverage is $60,000 per person and $300,000 per incident, and it applies only while a passenger is in the car. If you were riding home to a CSUN dorm or apartment when it happened, ask for the trip record early. Our page on car accidents in Northridge has the full local detail.

Injured client meeting with an attorney in Northridge

Walkers, riders and cyclists around CSUN and the boulevards

Campus areas mean people on foot, on bikes and on scooters, often at dusk, often near bus stops. The Reseda Boulevard data is blunt about it, since nearly half of the people killed or seriously injured there were pedestrians and cyclists. California law gives walkers some protection. A driver must yield to a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk, or an unmarked one at an intersection, and must slow down when approaching one (Vehicle Code section 21950). Drivers must also give a cyclist at least three feet when passing (Vehicle Code section 21760), and nobody may open a car door into moving traffic (Vehicle Code section 22517). Insurers still argue that the person on foot or on the bike was careless, which is where comparative fault comes in. Motorcyclists on Reseda and Devonshire face the same blame game, and hit-and-run drivers leave all of these riders without anyone to bill. If the driver fled, your own uninsured motorist coverage can pay, but there must have been physical contact, you must report it to police within 24 hours, and you must file a sworn statement within 30 days of that report (Insurance Code section 11580.2). We handle every one of these crash types.

Buses, trains and truck traffic that reach Northridge

Several transit lines meet at CSUN. LA Metro Line 167 runs east-west and stops at Reseda and Plummer, and Line 240 Rapid runs north-south on Reseda Boulevard. Both serve the CSUN Transit Station, per CSUN. AVTA Express Line 787 connects Palmdale and Lancaster to campus. The Metrolink Ventura County Line stops at Northridge Station, 8775 Wilbur Avenue. If you were hurt on a bus or hit by one, the operator matters, because a public agency brings a six-month government claim deadline. A bus operator that carries the public owes passengers the highest level of care under Civil Code section 2100, and the California Supreme Court has said that applies to public bus operators (Lopez v. Southern California Rapid Transit Dist. (1985) 40 Cal.3d 780). We did not verify any specific freight routes through Northridge, so we do not claim a truck corridor here. If a truck hit you on SR-118 along the north edge or on a surface street, the claim can involve the driver, the carrier and sometimes the company that loaded the cargo.

Northridge Hospital, your medical records and your claim

Northridge Hospital Medical Center, run by Dignity Health, is at 18300 Roscoe Boulevard, and the emergency room number is 818-885-8500. Dignity Health says it is the only pediatric trauma center in the San Fernando Valley. We could not verify its adult trauma level on a live official page, so we leave it out. After any crash, get checked the same day, even if you feel okay. Neck, back and head injuries can show up later, and insurers use any gap in treatment to argue that you were not hurt, or that something else hurt you. Save your discharge papers, bills, prescriptions and photos of bruises. Keep a short pain journal. Tell every provider about every symptom, because the chart becomes evidence. Brain injuries are a special concern, since symptoms like headaches, memory problems and mood changes can be slow to show, and the claim deadlines keep running. When a family loses someone in a crash, the wrongful death claim rules in Code of Civil Procedure section 377.60 decide who can bring it. We handle those cases with care and no pressure.

Courts, City of Los Angeles claims and deadlines

Under LA Superior Court Local Rule 2.3, unlimited civil injury cases go in the Central District at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, 111 North Hill Street, Los Angeles 90012, or the North District at the Antelope Valley Courthouse. For a Northridge crash, Stanley Mosk is the Central District option. Limited civil cases, $35,000 or less, follow other rules, so use the court's filing locator. The general deadline to sue a private party is two years from the crash (Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1). If a City of Los Angeles vehicle or road is involved, you must present a written claim within six months (Government Code section 911.2). It goes to the Los Angeles City Clerk Claims Department, 200 North Spring Street, Room 395, and the City Attorney says no other office can accept it. After a written rejection, you have six months to sue (section 945.6). A late claim application may be possible within one year (section 911.4). Insurers have their own clocks too. They must accept or deny a claim within 40 days of proof of claim (Cal. Code of Regulations, title 10, section 2695.7(b)). You should not have to guess at any of this, so make the free call early.

Northridge is in LAPD's Devonshire Area, whose station is at 10250 Etiwanda Avenue. LAPD says to call 213-486-8130 for a copy of a report that was taken. You can also mail the Records and Identification Division a request with an $18.00 check or money order, the date, place, parties and DR number.

Under LA Superior Court Local Rule 2.3, unlimited civil injury cases go in the Central District at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, 111 North Hill Street, or in the Antelope Valley. Limited civil cases, $35,000 or less, follow other filing rules, so check the court's filing locator. Moe's office confirms the right courthouse before filing.

You generally have two years to sue a private party (Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1). If the City of Los Angeles may be at fault, you must present a written claim within six months (Government Code section 911.2). A late claim may be possible within one year. Call early, because these dates are strict.

Your own uninsured motorist coverage can pay when the driver cannot be identified, if there was physical contact, you reported the crash to police within 24 hours, and you filed a sworn statement with your insurer within 30 days after the report. Write down any plate digits and ask nearby businesses for video right away.

It depends on the app status. From the moment a driver accepts a ride until it ends, liability coverage of $1,000,000 applies. Before that, while logged on and waiting, lower limits apply. With the app off, the driver's own policy is the starting point. Moe's office can request the trip record and sort out which policy applies.

Yes. California uses pure comparative negligence, so your compensation is reduced by your percentage of fault, but you are not barred from recovering. Insurers like to raise your share, which is why you should avoid recorded statements and let Moe deal with the adjuster.
